The March 21st speaker is Gordon Slaymaker and his topic is “2009-2010 AOS Awards National Capital Judging Center”. Gordon will be reviewing the awarded plants and discussing the finer points of what makes them outstanding flowers. Expect to see quite a variety of plants that get judged at the center in DC. For the past two years at our annual AOS Show in Richmond, the team from the NCJC has awarded an FCC to Marriott Orchids such as the one pictured above awarded last month.
Gordon is the Chair for the center and is speciality is Slipper orchids. Many of you already know Gordon as he has helped Ken Meier with sales at our show.
Feel free to email any questions you may have on Orchid culture and always you are welcome as a guest at our meetings to see what we are all about. jerry@vaorchidsociety.org will put you in touch with the past president of the society. We have all levels of experience in the society and a mentoring program for those who are just starting out with orchids.
The Virginia Orchid Society is based in Richmond and we meet the third Sunday from September to May at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.
